NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A search is underway for a 14-year-old boy who was last seen swimming in the Wildwood ocean Monday afternoon.
According to our newsgathering partners at NBC10, a Wildwood police officer was flagged down by witnesses around 1:30 p.m. near Cedar Avenue regarding swimmers in distress.
Firefighters, police and three lifeguards from the Wildwood Beach Patrol ALERT Team responded to the scene. At the time, no lifeguards were on duty, police told NBC10.
First responders found several people in the surf; an officer entered the water and got three swimmers out, but a 14-year-old was missing.
Beachside rescue operations ended after about two hours, but marine and aviation units continued to search the area.
