PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 19-year-old man is sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to his involvement in the fatal shooting of a teen boy outside Roxborough High School two years ago.
Common Pleas Court Judge Barbara McDermott sentenced Zyheid Jones to 30-60 years in prison for his role in the deadly shooting of 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde outside Roxborough High School after a football scrimmage on September 27th, 2022.
It was then that police say Jones and four others jumped from an SUV and opened fire, killing Elizalde, an innocent bystander. Four other teens were injured, none of whom have returned to Roxborough High.
The 14-year-old was a student at Saul High School who played with the Roxborough football team.
Jones also admitted guilt to the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Tahmir Jones the day before.
On Tuesday, 17-year-old Troy Fletcher pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy, four counts of attempted murder, and related firearm offenses for his involvement in the Roxborough shooting. Fletcher will be sentenced in February.
Three other defendants — Dayron Burney-Thorn, Saleem Miller, and Yaaseen Bivins — will face trial in October.
