PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three minors, including a toddler, were injured when gunfire erupted down a quiet North Philadelphia street Thursday night.
Police said about 30 shots were fired near 11th and Master streets shortly after 8:30 p.m. The crime scene spanned about two blocks and was littered with evidence markers.
Surveillance video released by police Friday afternoon shows a man dressed in all black running down the street with a gun and firing at a white Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows and a moon roof.
A few seconds later and up the block, the SUV stops and another male, also masked and in all black, shoots down the block from the back seat. Both shooters then get in the car, and it takes off.
"When police arrived on location, they initially found two victims," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "They found a 2-year-old boy, who was shot in the leg one or two times. … They also found a 15-year-old girl, also shot in her leg."
As they were investigating the scene, Small said a third victim, a 17-year-old boy, arrived at the hospital. He had been shot in the ankle. He told officers he was shot in the same area as the other victims.
Small said the toddler and the 15-year-old girl are related and live by the scene, but the 17-year-old lives in a different part of the city.
"We don't know who the intended target is. They're all so young," he said. "Of course, we don't believe anyone would shoot a 2-year-old. The 15-year-old girl we also believe was struck by stray gunfire. We don't know if the 17-year-old boy was the intended target. We don't know."
All three minors are expected to physically recover.
