PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Four teens were shot at a birthday party in North Philadelphia Wednesday night.
The party, at a home on Bonsall Street, between Somerset and Cambria streets, was for a 17-year-old, according to investigators. There were around 15 to 20 teens and young adults in attendance. The youngest person there was 11.
Suddenly, around 11:30 p.m., police said at least nine shots were fired.
"It appears that the shooter or shooters were firing shots, not only on the first floor but also in the basement," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
A 15-year-old girl who lives in the home was hit in the leg and back. Two other girls, ages 16 and 17, as well as a 16-year-old boy, were hit in the legs as well.
All were taken to the hospital and are listed in stable condition, according to police.
Investigators said there could have easily been another victim across the street because of stray gunfire.
"Two of the bullets actually went into the second-floor front bedroom of the house across the street, where a woman was laying in bed," Small said. "She told police she heard the shots and realized bullets went into her window."
The woman was not hit but was shaken up, police said.
Officers who responded chased after two people who fled into a house a block away. Police said they took them into custody and recovered a gun from the house.
Investigators arrested a third person, who was armed with a gun, near the shooting scene.
There's no word yet on any charges or if police are looking for anyone else.
