NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Changes are coming to Trenton's police department after an extended investigation into how the department operates.

Last fall, the U.S. Department of Justice released a report on the Trenton Police Department stating it "engages in a pattern or practice of conduct that violates the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution," and made several recommendations for improvement, some of which have already been implemented.

Trenton officials say there will be additional training in the areas of use of force, vehicle pursuit, and domestic violence calls. There will also be a new accreditation process to ensure the department is compliant with the standards of excellence.

Mayor Reed Gusciora also announced a new program starting in April called City-Stat, which encourages residents to show up in person for monthly meetings to voice their concerns. He said there will be more details on this in the coming weeks.
