BERLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — New Jersey state troopers shot and killed a man outside of his Camden County home on Tuesday. The state Attorney General’s Office is investigating.

Officials said two New Jersey State Police detectives were investigating in West Berlin when they ran into the subject of their investigation on the street. It’s not clear what happened during the interaction, but it led to one of the detectives pulling out his service weapon and shooting the man.

“I was just out front with the dog, letting him out, and then I heard a couple bangs, which sounded like gunshots,” one neighbor told NBC10.

A family friend of the man said he was 38 years old and a father of three girls.

A revolver was recovered from the scene, but it’s not clear who it belonged to.

“It happened real quick,” said an eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous. “I really felt [the officers] had the situation under control. They were probably 15 feet away from each other.

“I saw the body drop,” he continued. “Something happened to trigger them. He wasn’t charging because I didn’t see any movement.”

The Attorney General’s Office is waiting to release the identity of the man who was killed.

Witnesses said the shooting was caught on video.
