PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The man charged with stabbing a Macy’s security guard to death in Center City more than a year ago has struck a deal with prosecutors and will spend several decades in prison.
Tyrone Tunnell pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses for killing 27-year-old Eric Harrison and critically wounding another guard on Dec. 4, 2023.
Authorities said Harrison was working inside the Macy’s on Market Street when he saw Tunnell trying to steal some knit hats. When he tried to kick him out, police said Tunnell pulled a knife out and stabbed him. Tunnell was quickly arrested.
He has now been sentenced to 30 to 60 years behind bars.
Harrison, a beloved son, friend and employee, was working two full-time jobs at the time. In January 2024, his family filed a civil lawsuit against the building’s ownership and management. And in December of that year, Harrison’s parents filed a lawsuit against Macy’s Retail Holdings for failing to adequately protect employees.
