PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A $3 million federal grant will help spur business growth and job creation in Vineland, New Jersey.
The grant will transform about 65 acres of land into a business industrial park. Officials are hoping to put seven 10-acre lots on the property, which is currently not in use.
Vineland Director of Economic Development Sandy Forosisky said the first step is demolishing the buildings that are currently there.
“As large as Vineland is, we’re the largest city in New Jersey geography,” she said. “We’re 69 square miles — we are out of industrial land. There has been such a demand. This is very badly needed.”
The federal grant will be matched by local funds and is expected to create or retain more than 230 jobs.
Forosisky calls the space a big win for all parties.
“It’s going to take a property that has been underutilized, not utilized at all, it’s going to put it on the tax rolls, which is good for the city,” she said. “It’s going to create jobs, so the state makes out and the city makes out.”
Groundbreaking on the site is expected to start early next year.
