SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Virtua Health’s 40-foot mobile cancer screening bus is making the rounds all across South Jersey for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, providing mammograms and other services for people in the region.

Program coordinator Lisa Rosenberry says the goal is simple: bring top-notch care to people who may have a hard time getting to the doctor by themselves.

“We need to provide opportunities to make it easier for them to get screened, and that’s really what the whole focus is,” she said.

The bus has all the features one would expect to find at a doctor’s office. “Privacy in every way was considered,” she said. “Although it’s a mobile unit, it will not feel like that.”

Services on the bus include mammograms, cervical screenings and other essential preventative care — and, Virtua is taking requests. Rosenberry said if a group has about a dozen or so interested individuals, they should contact Virtua about setting up a mobile visit.

Most insurance plans are accepted. There are also free cancer screenings available for people without insurance.
