PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two Center City Wawa stores are officially shutting down.
The two shops are both on Market Street, on 12th and 19th streets. Employees at those stores will be offered other roles within the company.
“Despite reducing hours and investing in additional operational measures, continued safety and security challenges and business factors have made it increasingly difficult to remain open in these two locations,” the company said in a statement.
“These two closures do not necessarily impact or limit potential for future stores in Philadelphia County. We continue to be focused on doing everything we can to monitor and work with local authorities to address challenges impacting operations in any other stores.”
The company said it hopes to repurpose their two Market Street stores.
Other Wawa stores in the city have also adjusted their hours.
A few weeks ago, a Mayfair Wawa was ransacked by about 100 juveniles.
Police said they left a nearby roller skating rink and into the Wawa located at 7001 Roosevelt Blvd., near Tyson Avenue. They were caught on camera screaming, throwing snacks across the store, and breaking other items.
In total, police said they caused at least $10,000 worth of damage.
