PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Wearable devices are being used to measure everything from our heart rate to whether we have obstructive sleep apnea. The development of new apps has been rapid and consistent.

A new report in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests we have barely scratched the surface. In fact, artificial intelligence is now being used to track changes on a day-to-day basis.

It is also adding a fascinating new feature — not just measuring if a person is exercising or monitoring their heart rate, but using data from the devices to look at motivation to exercise as well as barriers to success.

Theoretically, this information could be used to help people succeed in their efforts to exercise and maintain a healthy weight.
