PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia singer has gained national attention, as she powers through this season of NBC’s “The Voice.”
“I’m super stoked and ecstatic about making it this far on the show,” says Aliyah Khaylyn, who just made it to the Knock-Out Rounds on Season 26 of the competition show.
At the beginning of the competition, Khaylyn stole the show with her rendition of Tamar Braxton’s “Love and War” and earned herself a seat on coach Michael Bublé’s team. That success was followed by a near-miss as Khaylyn was paired with another singer in the Battle Rounds.
“You want to stay on top of your A-game, but know there are things you can’t control. So you have to give yourself some grace,” Khaylyn said.
Both she and her opponent, Sofronio Vasquez, gave powerful performances — but Bublé chose to keep Vasquez. Khaylyn was ready to exit the competition … but then rap legend Snoop Dogg threw a curve ball and used his steal to save Khaylyn, landing her on Team Snoop.
Khaylyn says she’s going big for the Knock-Out Round with a special song dedicated to Philadelphia.
“It’s motivating me to do better in the next round and making me so confident.”
She says bonding with the coaches has been a highlight.
“Cultivating relationships with our coaches — that’s why we are here. We are here to show our gifts and who we are, but to also learn from the great artists who’ve been in the business for years.”
This season of coaches welcomes Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Reba McEntire and Gwen Stefani. “The Voice” airs Tuesday nights on NBC.
