SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron has resigned from his position, effective immediately.
He released a statement Thursday morning saying he is resigning "with deep sadness yet great hope for the continued prosperity of Wildwood."
Byron, a former mayor and city commissioner, was indicted last month for alleged fraudulent participation in the state health benefits program.
Deputy Mayor Krista Fitzsimmons will take Bryon’s seat on an interim basis. The election in November will determine the next mayor.
