SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Lindenwold police have arrested and charged a woman accused of dropping a malnourished dog in a dumpster and leaving it for dead.

Turquoise Morton, 38, is facing abandonment and animal cruelty charges. Authorities said on March 9, she put the dog in a plastic bag and then dropped it in a dumpster outside the Belmont Apartments complex on White Horse Pike.

The bichon-poodle mix was rescued from the dumpster and taken to an animal shelter, where it underwent successful surgeries. It has since been adopted into a new home.

Morton was being held at the Camden County jail pending a detention hearing.
