PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was struck and killed by an ambulance in Kensington late Thursday night, police said.
It happened just before midnight at F Street and Allegheny Avenue, a residential area just a few blocks away from the El station at Kensington and Allegheny avenues.
Authorities said a Philadelphia medic unit was responding to an emergency call when the ambulance hit a woman. The medics stayed on the scene and spoke with crash investigators.
Police did not initially say where on the street the woman was hit or where she was going. They also did not say which direction on the street the ambulance was going or where it was heading.
In a statement, the Philadelphia Fire Department said, “We are saddened by the incident overnight involving our medic unit and the death of a pedestrian. We offer our sincere condolences to their loved ones.”
There are surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, so police will search through footage as they continue their investigation.
