Hundreds hit Mann Center despite heat for free concert featuring Wyclef Jean, Saweetie and more

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Over a thousand people packed the Mann Center for the Performing Arts Friday night for a free concert, undeterred by the heat.

"Can't Wait Live: A Concert for Jobs, Climate and Care" was a star-studded show featuring performances from Wyclef Jean, Saweetie, Mavis Staples and Ne-Yo, plus Philly's own DJ Jazzy Jeff, Freeway and DJ Diamond Kuts.

The show was hosted by the Working Families Party. Despite happening on one of the hottest days of the summer, the party didn't stop.

"It was a little hot, but we pushed through," said concertgoer Anthony Moore, who added he hoped there would be more Friday night events like this for kids in the city.

"It's the summertime, so pools close at 5:00. These kids go home, get in trouble. This is something positive," he said. "I wish they would do something like this every year."

16-year-old Angel Lewis agreed it was great to have a safe place to have fun on Friday night. "I don't want to be outside because of all the violence going on," she shared. "I lost two friends this year."

15-year-old Mikayla Jones said her favorite performer was R&B singer Ne-Yo.

"Ne-Yo is just the best entertainer," she said. "His dance moves, his songs are so legendary, so iconic."

Concert organizers said the aim of the show was to demand Congress stay in session until they pass legislation on jobs, climate, child care, housing and immigration.
