"Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother's defense," CNN's statement read. "We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately."

The statement continued, "While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate."

The network had suspended Cuomo on Tuesday after details emerged concerning how he helped his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, deal with sexual harassment charges earlier this year.

According to documents released by New York's attorney general, Cuomo sought information from sources on his brother's behalf and helped the former governor's team fashion responses to the allegations against him. At least 11 women accused Andrew Cuomo of harassment.
