The Lancaster County coroner says measles was the cause of one of the two deaths related to the virus.
He says measles killed a 6-week-old girl. She was born with a genetic birth defect that left her highly vulnerable to an infection.
Another infant died from a ruptured spleen shortly after he was born. The boy was also infected with measles, but the coroner says the virus did not contribute to what happened to the spleen.
Neither child was old enough to be vaccinated; the first dose is typically given at around age 1.
The doctor says he told the Centers for Disease Control about his conclusions, but the CDC has not said whether it will count either death as measles-associated.
Details of the deaths have become the focus of a furious political battle between Gov. Josh Shapiro and officials in the Trump administration.
