James Holzhauer had a couple comments on “Jeopardy!”’s plans during the ongoing WGA writers’ strike.
Holzhauer shared a link to the “Inside Jeopardy” podcast on his own Twitter profile, which showrunner Michael Davies laid out how they would continue with a fall season.
"If you don't have time to listen, here's the executive summary of today's announcement: 1:00-2:00: Jeopardy's writers are invaluable and we couldn't produce the show without them," Holzhauer captioned his post. "2:00-15:00: Here is how we will produce the upcoming season without them."
During the podcast Davies explained the game show’s 40th season would be happening with a “combination of material that our WGA writers wrote before the strike, which is still in the database, and material that has been re-deployed from multiple seasons of the show.”
He also discussed how “Jeopardy!” would only be having returning contestants on, as “it would not be fair to have new contestants making their first appearance on the Alex Trebek Stage, doing it with non-original material.”
“Celebrity Jeopardy” and “Jeopardy Masters” are also planned to continue. A number of former champions have already spoken out against the show’s plans to go on during the writers’ strike.
The Writers Guild of America went on strike at the beginning of May looking to negotiate new contracts for such things as higher wages and streaming residuals, as well as AI regulations.
