New Padres starter German Marquez bounced back from a rough debut outing with the type of start that should give team officials hope he can stick at the back end of the rotation. Marquez struck out 4 and walked just 1 over 5 scoreless innings in San Diego's 5-0 win on Monday. The Padres' bats carried over momentum from Sunday's win, as they pounded out 11 hits. Nick Castellanos went 2-4 and drove in the game's first run with an RBI-double in the 4th inning. Jackson Merrill brought in a run with a ground rule double in the 5th inning, and Jake Cronenworth notched his first extra base hit of the season, crushing an RBI-double off the right field wall in the 6th inning. Perhaps most importantly, the Padres lower-leverage arms provided length on a night when most of the team's high-leverage arms were unavailable. Ron Marinaccio and David Morgan each pitched two shutout innings following Marquez to secure the win, while also giving the rest of the bullpen a much needed night off. It was the Padres third victory in a row as they climbed back to .500. Nick Pivetta will square off against Paul Skenes on Tuesday.
