The weekend in Milwaukee couldn't have gone any worse for the Padres. After having Ty France's potential go-ahead 2-run 9th inning home run hit the roof and result in an out on Saturday night, Mason Miller blew a one-run lead in the bottom of the 9th inning with two strikes and two outs in Game 2, giving the Brewers a commanding 2-0 lead in this best of 5 series. The Padres led for nearly the entire game, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning before losing on the final pitch of the game. Ty France continued his incredible season, driving in Manny Machado with a 2-out single in the top of the 1st. Then in the top of the 5th inning, Dustin Harris grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Luis Campusano to score from third base. Michael King cruised through the first four innings, but ran into trouble int he 5th inning. He gave up an RBI-single to Sal Frelick, but escaped the inning having given up just that lone run while stranding two runners on base. Ty France came through once again for the Padres, delivering an insurance run with an RBI-single in the top of the 7th inning. In the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs, David Hamilton hit a slow grounder to second base with runners on the corners, that Jake Cronenworth bobbled before making an errant throw to first base, allowing Garrett Mitchell to score as the Brewers closed to within a run on a play that probably should have ended the inning. With the Padres clinging to a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th, Craig Stammen brought in his All-Star closer Mason Miller, who pitched a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. Stammen tried to coax a six-out save out of Miller after a low pitch count through one inning, but things got messy in the bottom of the 9th. Miller retired Garrett Mitchell to begin the inning, before issuing a walk to Christian Yelich. Yelich stole second base to move into scoring position, before Sal Frelick drew a walk, putting the go-ahead run on base. Pinch-hitter Andrew Vaughn popped out to center field for the second out of the inning, before Pat Murphy brought in Gary Sanchez as a pinch hitter. Sanchez worked a full count, before drawing the third walk of the inning from Mason Miller to load the bases with two outs for Jackson Chourio. Miller got ahead of Chourio with a 1-2 count, but Chourio evened it up to a 2-2 count. On the sixth pitch of the at-bat, Chourio hit a 101 MPH four-seam fastball the other way past a diving Jake Cronenworth, to bring home two runs as the Brewers walked it off to take a 2-0 lead in the NLDS. The Padres will return home facing elimination with Nick Pivetta on the mound in Game 3 on Tuesday.
