The Padres showed resilience after falling behind 4-0 on Saturday evening, coming back to defeat the Rockies 9-5. German Marquez allowed three home runs in the first three innings to dig a 4-0 hole for the Padres. Everything went the Rockies way early, as Jordan Beck robbed Nick Castellanos of a 3-run homer that would have gotten the Padres right back in the game. But the Friars didn't panic, and kept swinging away, and scored three runs in each of the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings to come from behind. Manny Machado blasted a 2-run homer in the 3rd to bring the Padres to within a run, and Ramon Laureano hit a 3-run go-ahead homer in the 4th to put the Padres up 6-4. Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a bases loaded walk in the 6th, and Jackson Merrill followed that up with a 2-run double to blow the game wide open. Tatis Jr. had his best game of the season, reaching base four times while drawing his first career start at second base, and looking comfortable out there as well. The Padres will send their ace Nick Pivetta to the mound on Sunday with a chance at a 4-game sweep over the Rockies.
