The Padres came from behind to earn a resilient win over the Red Sox on Sunday morning, winning 8-6 to win their first series of the season. After falling behind 4-0, the Padres rallied for three runs in the top of the 4th inning. Jackson Merrill drove in Fernando Tatis Jr. with an RBI-single, and then Nick Castellanos plated two with a single to left field. In the bottom of the 5th, Manny Machado blasted a 3-run homer to put the Padres on top 6-4. Masataka Yoshida's 2-run double in the 7th tied the game at 6, but Jackson Merrill put the Padres back on top for good with a solo homer in the 8th inning. Fernando Tatis Jr. would give the Padres an insurance run with a sac-fly in the 9th, and Mason Miller struck out the side to secure the victory. The Padres now head to Pittsburgh for a series against the Pirates.
