The Phillies completed their second sweep of the Padres in the past week with a 6-4 win on Thursday. Bryson Stott's RBI-single in the 4th inning plated the first run of the game. The Phillies scored two more runs in the 5th inning to take a 3-0 lead, including one run on a throwing error by Yuki Matsui on a pickoff throw to first base. Manny Machado's 2-run home run in the 7th inning brought the Padres back to within a run. But Adrian Morejon had a rough inning in the bottom of the 7th, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits and a walk while recording just one out to put the Padres back at a 4-run deficit. The Padres attempted to rally in the 9th inning, with Jackson Merrill blasting a 2-run homer with no outs, but Xander Bogaerts, Miguel Andujar and Jase Bowen were retired in order following the home run to secure the 6-4 victory for the Phillies. The Padres now return home for a weekend series against the Mets beginning on Friday.
