"Growing up mental health was not something I ever really heard about, to be honest. It wasn't apart of conversation culturally and it wasn't a big conversation at all or any conversation with family," he revealed in a new interview with Certified. He admits that, while growing up in the '90s, there wasn't a good connotation to what we now, commonly, know as mental health.

"Taking my own mental wellness and peace of mind really didn't become a priority until I found myself making decisions in a lot of different areas in my life that weren't rewarding and were affecting my relationships with my family and my closest friends," the "Come Through And Chill" crooner admitted.

Later, he expressed the importance of stepping back from the cesspool of social media. "Social media is definitely one of those places where many can agree how challenging it is to maintain your own sense of self-worth when it can be quantified by how many likes you get for a photograph or a piece of content and unless you have a real firm grip on reality and on what really matters (to you), it's a very slippery slope." Stepping back allowed him to "set his priorities" and now here's his day to day routine to remain grounded.

"Wake up, meditate, work out, read, and that's like my maintenance," he revealed. "Meditation for me is such a rewarding practice that I can always go to when things get very hectic." Another practice Miguel began to implement daily was "starting with the end in mind," meaning to live your life in the way you want to be remembered when you're gone. "If you allow yourself to consider what you want people to say about you, you get a sense of what you want to be, what you want to accomplish." Dive into Miguel's full interview above.
