If you haven't already gotten your Christmas decorations up - because let's be honest, many people have - there's still time to get an early start. And many believe now is the time to snatch up your live tree.

With a year like 2020, it's no surprise that it's been tricky to find live Christmas trees in certain parts of the country. With the many wildfires raging in the western part of the states, Christmas tree numbers have taken a hit.

Thrillist spoke with Doug Hundley of the National Christmas Tree Association and determined that it's not all bad news when it comes to snatching up your perfect fir this year.

While it's true that there are fewer trees available this year due to various circumstances, a surplus of trees in years prior has balanced out the numbers. "Now the tree supply is well-balanced with the demand, and we don't have excess anymore," Hundley said.

The real shortage may come if you wait to buy your tree.

Since there has been a larger-than-normal demand for live trees this year, and many are opting for earlier setups than usual, finding your tree closer to the actual holiday may come with a price.

The selection of trees available is expected to dwindle, so if you wait until December 15th to buy your tree, you may experience a shortage of good options.

According to Hundley, most trees (about 75-90%) are purchased during the two weekends following Thanksgiving - and that number doesn't even account for the many people this year who have decided to decorate a little early.
