“Knives Out” is becoming a franchise.
Netflix has bought the rights to two sequels to the 2019 “whodunnit” mystery in a reportedly massive $450 million deal, according to Variety.
Rian Johnson will return to direct and Daniel Craig will reprise his role of detective Benoit Blanc. The first sequel is set to begin filming in Greece this summer.
It is unclear if the two films will stream exclusively on Netflix or if they will also be released in theaters.
Released in 2019, “Knives Out” was a blockbuster hit earning over $311 million at the box office.
In addition to Craig, the film featured an all-star cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, the late Christopher Plummer, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon, and Ana de Armas.
The story centered around the investigation of the murder of an eccentric wealthy mystery novelist (Plummer) and the members of his family who come under suspicion for possibly killing him.
The film was nominated for three Golden Globes: Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy for Daniel Craig, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy for Ana de Armas. Johnson, who wrote the script, received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
Plot details, casting or a premiere date for the first sequel have yet to be revealed.
Looks like “Knives Out 2” is already keeping people guessing!
