A “Jeopardy!” contestant went home empty-handed but still made history.

As LeVar Burton made his guest hosting debut on the iconic game show on Monday, contestant Patrick Pearce managed to become a trailblazer by breaking the record for obtaining the lowest score ever in the show’s history, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Pearce ended his appearance deep in the holw with a score of -$7,400. The previous record was held by a contestant that ended up with -$6,800 in 2015, noted the outlet.

While Pearce racked up $200 during the show’s initial Jeopardy round, since he came up in the negative at the end of Double Jeopardy he didn’t proceed to Final Jeopardy.

In the end, Fellow contestant Matt Amodio continued his winning streak and came out victorious.

The memorable episode was the first of five with Burton behind the podium.

Burton, known for his roles on “Roots” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” recently spoke about stepping into Alex Trebek’s shoes on the mega-hit game show.

“Alex did this for 37 years. The man was like butter,” Burton said. "For me, I think all in all, I’m going to walk away happy tonight.”

When asked if he was nervous to be a guest host on the show, Burton responded, “I was more than nervous. I was absolutely petrified and I don’t know if that feeling will ever go away.”

Burton taped his five episodes in one day with only one day of rehearsal beforehand.

While Burton’s run as guest host will end on Friday, July 30th, a permanent “Jeopardy!” host is expected to be announced this summer.
