Jon Lyons and Mike Kadlick were on WEEI together on Sunday and discussed the Red Sox bringing Theo Epstein back to the organization. They both agreed it was a great move for the franchise. Listen to the full segment beginning at the 36:00 mark below.

“There are two real reasons why the Red Sox are now an afterthought throughout much of Boston and why they’ve been a bad baseball team the last two years,” Lyons said. “Number one, they will not spend on premium talent outside of Rafael Devers….and they’ve been blatantly ineffective at the trade deadline. If there is one guy that can change those things for the better, one guy on the planet Earth, I think it’s Theo Epstein.”

Added Kadlick: “This is the one move that can really turn the tide. This is the one needle mover for Fenway Sports Group to help this team.”

The guys continued their discussion with thoughts on Epstein’s impact next offseason and identifying which prospects to keep and which ones the Red Sox should be willing to trade for premium talent. Epstein was the Red Sox general manager for the 2004 and 2007 World Series titles. He also was in charge of the Cubs baseball operations department during their 2016 championship.
