The Celtics wasted no time filling the two-way spot left vacant after the team waived big man Nathan Knight just a day ago.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics have agreed to a two-way deal with free agent wing Drew Peterson.
Peterson has been playing with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the G League, where he averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and a steal in 13 games this season. Notably, he shot 52.8% from the field and 40.7% from distance.
The 6-foot-9 wing played five years of college ball, his first two at Rice, before transferring to USC, where he finished his college career as a fifth-year senior last spring.
Peterson steadily improved throughout his collegiate career, posting career bests in points (13.9), assists (4.3), and steals (1.1) per game in his final season while shooting 44.2% from the floor and 35.8% from three.
The 24-year-old led the Trojans in assists and rebounds and ranked 10th in total rebounds and fifth in total assists among Pac-12 players a season ago, en route to earning his second Pac-12 First-Team honor.
The Illinois native went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, but shortly after received an exhibit-10 deal from the Miami Heat, where he spent training camp before signing with the Skyforce after being waived.
For his size, Peterson provides some nice playmaking with his passing ability and also serves as a deep threat on the perimeter.
Expected to join the team as early as Thursday, Peterson will be joining JD Davison and Neemias Queta as Boston’s two-way signees.
