Delonte West is back on the court.
TMZ reports the former Celtics guard is training every day in Maryland in hopes of joining Ice Cube’s BIG3 league. He’s also mentoring kids at the Pat The Roc Basketball Skills Academy in Gaithersburg, according to TMZ.
West has battled addiction and homelessness since he last played in the NBA in 2012. Two years ago, he was photographed on the side of the road near a Dallas highway, holding out a cardboard sign and asking for help. Before that, disturbing video emerged of West getting brutally beaten in the streets of Washington D.C. by an unidentifiable person.
Those incidents spurned Mavericks owner Mark Cuban to track West down and pick him up at Dallas-area gas station in September 2020.
West has been bravely transparent about his mental health issues over the years. More than 10 years ago, he revealed his lifelong battle with bipolar disorder.
West, who’s now 38, averaged 9.7 points and 3.2 assists per game over his nine-year NBA career.
