The Patriots are adding another defender that head coach Mike Vrabel knows well. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, New England is signing linebacker Jack Gibbens to a one-year deal.
Gibbens, 26, spent the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, most notably starting 13 games under Vrabel during his best season in 2023. Gibbens recorded a career-high 95 tackles that year.
Gibbens had 44 tackles in 10 games (5 starts) this past season before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. He was a restricted free agent this offseason, but the Titans chose to not tender him an offer.
Gibbens joins former Titans teammate and fellow linebacker Harold Landry in New England, as Vrabel continues to add familiar faces. Another free-agent linebacker addition, Robert Spillane, also briefly played for Vrabel in Tennessee, and went on to play for now-Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas.
