Families are beginning to return to movies theaters and as more film companies opt for "only in theater" releases again we are beginning to see a great number of family films pop up. One new release that both intrigued and surprised me is The Kings Daughter.

The family-friendly fantasy tale narrated by Julie Andrews stars Pierce Brosnan and William Hurt. All three are extremely well-known, loved, and respected actors, yet the first time I saw any mention of the film was on last week's The Reel Buzz.

I took both of my boys to see the film and it was a wonderful family night at the movies, first because we were going in with fresh, unjaded, or spoiler alert knowledge of the film. Secondly, there was something in the film for all three of us, fantasy, adventure, rebellion, love, integrity a mermaid, and honor.

The film is based on the novel The Moon and the Sun by American writer Vonda N. McIntyre, which was published in 1997. The film began production in 2014 but with many changes in production companies and distribution rights, finally made it to the screen in 2022.

The Kings Daughter is a solid family film that the whole family can enjoy. After all that we have been through lately, who wouldn't enjoy a two-hour escape narrated by Julie Andrews? The film is esthetically beautiful, with a mix of fantasy, science fiction, and reimagined history.
