Jo Koy is Looking at the Bright Side of Self-Isolation

Comedian Jo Koy is itching to return to Las Vegas, the city that launched his stand-up career, but first he’s hoping to enjoy some family time – a side effect of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I love it actually, to be honest,” Koy says during a March 18 appearance on Mix 94.1’s Mercedes in the Morning. “I haven’t gotten on a plane, I’m not in the airport, I’m loving it.

“Normally I’d be at an airport right now going to a city for four days and not seeing anybody, so I’m taking advantage of that and I’m enjoying it.”

Koy, like many Americans, is in self-imposed quarantine as the virus sweeps across the country. Though the headlines are filled with bad news, the healthy 48-year-old is trying to look on the bright side. He’s getting reacquainted with loved ones – “This is the most time I’ve spent with them in years,” he says – and making videos to entertain fans on social media.

It’s unknown how long he’ll stay in the house, but Koy is not worried about running out of supplies.

“I need bread dude, I’m addicted to bread, [so] I got seven loaves, they’re all in the freezer,” he says.

And what about toilet paper?

“Thank god I got this bidet,” he jokes. “I have a robot cleaning my butt right now and it’s the greatest thing in the world, man.”

Koy has a Netflix special, a “variety show” filmed in the Philippines, coming to Netflix in June; and he’s thinking about coming back to Las Vegas to spend a few days with his mother.

“She was prepared for this years ago, you know how Filipinos are, man,” he says. “She’s stocked up on Vicks, she’s got food for days.”
