  • #BlackoutTuesday
    • The music/media industries are staging a blackout today in wake of the killing of George Floyd.
    • The statement has been circulating on social media and companies like Columbia Records are clarifying that it is not a “day off,” but rather a “day to reflect and figure out ways to move forward in solidarity.”
    • Among the outlets and labels committing to observing the blackout are Def Jam, Island Records, Warner Music Group, Capitol Records and Sony.
    • Spotify will also be participating by adding an 8 minute and 46-second moment of silence to select playlists and podcasts on the platform to honor George Floyd.
    • The length of the moment of silence is equal to the amount of time he was pinned down by the neck with the knee of police officer Derek Chauvin.
    • People are being asked not to post on social media for the day to stop and reflect.

    • Study: Loneliness from months of lockdown may have a lasting impact on children’s mental health.
    • With kids missing out on their last few months of the school year and a summer in which they will likely stay home, experts are warning that this long stretch of isolation can lead kids to experiencing depression and anxiety, even after the lockdown restrictions are lifted.
    • The findings show that loneliness can make children three times more likely to feel depressed in the future.
    • Experts say that school should prioritize the emotional well-being of their students as they begin to reopen rather than focus on academics.
