You often hear the term "22 a day". A reference to the reported 22 veterans that commit suicide every day in our country. The issue may be far greater than that, according to our guest Yonel Dorelis with Irreverent Warriors Bringing Veterans Together.
Yonel is a veteran helicopter pilot, and has now made it his mission to reach as many veterans as possible, getting them together in a team exercise that is brash, fun, and unifying. His hope? These connections help save one life, inspire one veteran, to change one trajectory at a time.
We spoke about the challenges for veterans returning home - and it isn't all based around PTSD. Sometimes, simply getting a job can be a challenge because there is a disconnect with employers being unable to dechipher job experiences that vets got while deployed. There are things we can be doing better as a society to support our bravest and most selfless citizens.
The conversation was direct, frank and important!
