Have you ever heard of the Texas Trash Pie? Know what's in it? Ever tried it?

Until now, I was clueless about the Texas Trash Pie. The backstory leads to the start of the pie happening in Round Top. Whether or not that is the beginning, it has certainly gotten it's popularity thanks to the Round Top Cafe's owners Bud and Karen.

The Royers family moved to Round Top in '87. They took over the Round Top Cafe, located between Austin and Houston, with no culinary background. They turned it into a popular comfort food country bistro that gets a lot of business from word-of-mouth. Their pies are known to be some of the best in Texas created by Bud "The Pieman". No visit to Round Top is complete without stopping by the Round Top Cafe for a slice / Texa Trash Pie.

Here's a copycat recipe to try out before heading to Round Top. Try it and see how close it is to the OG Texas Trash Pie.

Texas Trash Pie (copycat)
1 (10-inch) frozen pie crust
1 cup chocolate chips1
cup caramel bits or butterscotch chips
1 cup pretzels, roughly chopped
1 cup graham crackers, crushed
1 cup sweetened coconut, shredded
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

Mix all the filling ingredients together
Put the filling in a frozen pie crust that's in a pie pan and spread it evenly
Bake 350 for 45 minutes / let cool for 15 minutes. Enjoy!

The authentic Texas Trash Pie can be eaten / picked up at Royers Round Top Cafe or delivered by Goldbelly. Enjoy even more!
