A crown fit for a queen.

When Jada Pinkett Smith hit “The Matrix Resurrections” red carpet a couple weeks ago, sitting atop her incredible Giambattista Valli Couture gown was her lovely face and shorn-to-the-skin haircut. The paparazzi flashes went into overdrive.

Most agreed it was an awesome look, but there’s more to it.

In 2018, the actress and Mrs. Will Smith revealed that she suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes hair to fall out. But in a recently posted Instagram video clip, Smith took even more ownership of the forced-upon fashion statement.

Sitting in a grey sweatshirt but still looking fabulous, Pinkett Smith says, “Now at this point I can only laugh. Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all the sudden, one day…”

Then she points out a line across the top of her dome that is visible even among her near-bald scalp. But is Smith crying about it? Heck no, in fact she giggles throughout the clip.

“Now this is gonna be a little more difficult for me to hide. Thought I’d just share it so y’all not asking any questions.”

In the caption, Pinkett Smith lays out the plan: “ Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”

Last July, Pinkett Smith revealed her new bald look on Instagram where she shared photos of her and daughter Willow after they shaved their heads, as a way for Willow to show support for her mom’s situation.

As Page Six reported, back in 2018 during a discussion on her “Red Table Talk” Facebook show, Pinkett Smith first admitted to early fears.

“It was terrifying when it first started," she said. "I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair just in my hands… It was one of those times in my life that I was literally shaking with fear.”

She explained that she always thought of her hair care as a “beautiful ritual,” and tried experimenting with shorter styles and turbans.

Well, that’s all in the past it seems, as Pinkett Smith confidently concluded in the new video, “Mama’s gonna put some rhinestones in there. I’m just gonna make me a little crown.”
