“I can’t believe it’s been 40 years ago today that the world lost you,” Osbourne wrote as he shared to black and white photos of the late Rhoads.

“I think back on our time together and it seems like only yesterday was the last time I saw you. Always in my heart. Love you brother.”

Rhoads served as the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band and played on his first two solo albums, Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman. The records feature iconic songs like “Crazy Train,” “Suicide Solution,” “Mr. Crowley,” and “Flying High Again,” all of which Rhoads helped co-write.

Prior to joining Osbourne, Rhoads was a founding member of Quiet Riot having formed the group with bassist Kelly Garni in 1973.

As for Ozzy, he’s reportedly working on a brand new album that’s set to feature the likes of Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi and Zakk Wylde. The album serves as a follow up to his 2020 record Ordinary Man.
