Tyler Hubbard is no stranger to hit songs. From his time writing and performing with Florida Georgia Line to his recent solo project, Dancin’ In The Country, it’s safe to say Tyler is familiar with the recipe for success. Hubbard recently joined Audacy’s Rob + Holly for the Friday Night Takeover and shared some of his best advice for creating a hit.

“I would just say keep showin’ up and keep tryin’,” he advised anyone with dreams of securing a hit as a songwriter. “I’ve been doin’ this for you know, 12 years now and I get to be around incredible songwriters here in Nashville and learnin’ and growin’ every day. I call it my ‘9 to 5,’ I do it 3-4 times a week and not every song is a hit so like it said, keep coming back and doin’ it.”
While putting in the work is important, Hubbard says it’s also important to take a break and recharge.
“I’ve also found what’s important is to take some time off as well,” he said. “I find that these creative moments come in waves so I might go write 10 or 15 songs in a few weeks and then go a few weeks without writing at all just because, sometimes you gotta live life to get inspired and collect ideas and come up with things to write about.”
When Tyler writes a song he is excited about, he takes an active “roll” in it’s success… for example, strapping on some skates for the video of “Baby Gets Her Lovin’” (see what we did there??)
“It’s probably been 10 years, 8 or 10 years since I’ve skated,” he said of dusting off some old skills for the music video. “I did skate a couple times in college for fun and then a couple times in high school. For some reason, I had a huge foot when I was a kid and have the same skates I bought when I was in like, 4th or 5th grade. They still fit me.”
Tyler says those skates are “the ones with the yellow laces” in the video. “Those are the ones I’ve had for probably 20 years.” Look for them below!
