Louisiana State University orders fraternity and sorority students on Greek Row to take a COVID test after the virus was found in wastewater from that area of campus.

On Thursday, the university sent an email to 15 fraternity or sorority chapters notifying them that COVID-19 was detected in tests of the wastewater. The students are asked to be tested within 48 hours at one of three on-campus testing sites according to The Times-Picayune | The Advocate.

LSU spokesman Ernie Ballard says the students must all be tested by 11 am on Saturday, which is the first day of Greek recruitment.
“We are assessing the situation as it pertains to rush,” Ballard said. “We will factor in both wastewater results and the results of individual testing in our decision.”
The email says if the students miss the deadline it could "impact your ability to remain on campus and participate in any in-person activities."
Ballard says the notification went out after “high traces” of the virus were detected in campus wastewater.
As The Advocate reports, testing the school’s wastewater successfully detected COVID outbreaks in the spring and summer semesters. LSU collects and tests wastewater each week to estimate how many students may be infected.
