Dr. Fauci Ramps Up Security After Receiving ‘Serious Threats’

Dr. Anthony Fauci revealed a shocking revelation about his tenure as the country’s top infectious disease expert during the coronavirus pandemic.

On the newest episode of the “The Axe Files,” Fauci told CNN political commentator David Axelrod that his role as health adviser to President Donald Trump on the White House coronavirus task force has led to “serious threats” towards him, his wife and daughters.

The threats have led the family to ramp up security out of concerns for their safety.

“I’ve seen a side of society that I guess is understandable, but it’s a little bit disturbing,” Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told Axelrod.

“I mean, really? Is this the United States of America?” the health expert added.

This isn’t the first time Fauci’s received threats. During his appearance, he recalled his role as head of the NIAID’s response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80s, when he received hate mail that could often times be overlooked as “stupid people saying stupid things.”

But he says the current threats are heightened in today’s more turbulent political climate.

“It’s really a magnitude different now,” Fauci told Axelrod. “As much as people inappropriately, I think, make me somewhat of a hero ... there are people who get really angry at thinking I’m interfering with their life because I’m pushing a public health agenda.”

Fauci’s warnings and recommendations amid the pandemic have left him at odds with the Trump administration in recent weeks.

Last week, 3,500 public health experts wrote an open letter to Trump, in which they referred to the COVID-19 pandemic “one of the greatest challenges the United States has faced in its history,” and called efforts to undermine Fauci a “dangerous distraction.”
