Cops say they have stopped a plan to create carnage at Jazz Fest.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office in Florida announced the arrest amid what investigators called terroristic threats.

"The OCSO was contacted by federal authorities in reference to a male from North Carolina being in our jurisdiction while reportedly heading to do a mass shooting at a large festival in Louisiana," the department posted.

Officials say they arrested Christopher Gillum of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

"Authorities obtained information Gillum planned to travel to a festival in New Orleans to conduct a mass shooting and then commit suicide by cop."

After getting word from the feds, investigators jumped into action.

"Deputies located the male at a Destin hotel and he was taken into custody tonight without incident as a fugitive from justice."

They recovered a firearm and multiple boxes of bullets.

"Deputies recovered a handgun and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition from Gillum's hotel room."

Florida plans to send Gillum to New Orleans.

"He will be extradited to Louisiana for his charges from state police there."

Jazz Fest starts today.
