Party of one, your table is ready.
A Swedish couple is opening up a new pop-up restaurant in an empty field near their home that will consist of one table and one chair.
The restaurant is called Bord For En, which translates to table for one, and is set to open for a limited run from May 10th to August 1st.
Linda Karlsson and Rasmus Persson are the owners and plan to give their customer(s) the ultimate in social distancing dining as the restaurant will have no waitstaff.
Solo diners will have their food sent over via a pulley system with a basket attached. The couple will fill the basket with the meal from their kitchen and then send it over to their hungry customer.
The pair got the idea for the restaurant after serving their family a meal from the window of their home.
"My parents invited themselves over for lunch at our new house in Ransäter, Sweden," Karlsson told TODAY Food. "It was a cold and windy day and even though we talk every day, I had not seen them for weeks.
She added: "So when my parents showed up, we refused to let them in. Because of the COVID-19 we instead set a table with white linen outside and served them through the window."
While Sweden has not mandated any nationwide social distancing protocols, it has issued “recommendations” for people to follow.
"Rasmus and I said to ourselves, 'We should make this available for everyone! Anti-social freaks, people in risk groups, anyone! It will be the only COVID-19 safe restaurant in the world.' I made the website the very same night," Karlsson added.
They plan to serve a three-course menu consisting of locally sourced food and will include a non alcoholic cocktail pairing.
To make the solo meal more appetizing, diners can pay whatever they want for the dining experience.
“We are all are facing difficult times and there are people that have lost their jobs, loved ones, or even their mind. We welcome all, no matter what financial situation you are in,” Karlsson told Insider.
"We want to encourage people to sit down and spend quality time with themselves.”
