A Facebook group devoted to helping people find COVID vaccines is seeing more interest in testing these days.

Holiday gatherings and closures of state- and county-run COVID sites mean more people are looking for places to get free testing in Illinois.

Roger Negliski, founder of Chicago Vaccine Hunters, said the 81,000-member group has seen an explosion of interest, from four or five new member requests a day to 120 people right after the holiday.

“The biggest increase in Facebook members asking to join happened yesterday, the day after Christmas,” he said Monday.

He said users can usually find testing sites or zero in on at-home testing kits within 30 minutes.

Negliski and other volunteer moderators are trying to weed out spammers or those attempting to profit from the scarcity of home testing kits.
