You can officially stop calling these Boston Red Sox a sneaky good team. This year’s Red Sox are a straight-up good team. A great team. A phenomenal team. And, as a result, their betting odds are on the move.
Boston got swept by the Baltimore Orioles to start the season and everyone went into panic mode (myself included). Their odds to win the World Series were +5000, the AL Championship odds were at +2300, and AL East winner odds sat at +3300 (odds courtesy of DraftKings).
NOW the Red Sox are on a six-game winning streak with a 6-3 record. Their odds are starting to paint a picture of the success this team is going to have.
Boston’s odds to win the World Series are now +4000, slightly shortened but not by enough. Their AL Championship odds have also shortened to +1800, which I’d say is pretty fair. And, their AL East odds have shortened epically to +900, as they should have. This all comes after two series sweeps already in the young season, and jetting to the top spot in the American League East standings.
Those World Series odds could be shorter, considering the Red Sox completely bulldozed the Tampa Bay Rays and got their revenge on the Orioles by sweeping that most recent series. They should be World Series favorites immediately in my opinion. But, that will come with time if they keep this up. Oddsmakers will start giving them more and more credit. The season is still just getting started. To the Red Sox, those first three games were just an extended cut of spring training.
This team is currently on a rocket ship projected to reach the moon and I think an AL East win is an excellent bet. If the Red Sox continue on this trajectory, look for all these odds to keep getting shorter. They’ll be the AL East favorites at least in no time.
