The Nov. 19 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams, originally scheduled for Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, has been moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum due to unsatisfactory field conditions, the NFL announced Tuesday.
"The decision is based on the determination -- in consultation with the NFLPA and following a meeting and field inspection this afternoon by NFL and club field experts as well as local and independent outside experts -- that the playing field at Estadio Azteca does not meet NFL standards for playability and consistency and will not meet those standards by next Monday," the league said in explaining the decision.
The stadium had hosted two soccer teams' home games as well as several concerts in recent weeks.
Instead of playing at a neutral site, the Rams now will have true home-field advantage in a game between a pair of 9-1 teams that has major implications for the playoff picture in each conference.
