PHILADELPHIA — Philly has a new unofficial mascot: the Thingamabob.
We already knew he had a powerful and sultry voice, but it was revealed to the rest of the world on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday night: Behind the Thingamabob’s multicolored moth-like mask was none other than Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata.
Mailata sang covers of “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi and “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.
Some fans had speculated it was him, after he went viral last year for singing during the team’s rookie talent show and knocking it out of the park.
Mailata was a 2018 seventh-round pick who is also a former Australian rugby player.
While Mailata is not the first NFL player to grace “The Masked Singer” stage — Antonio Brown, Terry Bradshaw, Rob Gronkowski, Mark Sanchez — he’s certainly the best singer of the bunch.
“The Masked Singer” is in its seventh season on Fox. The “who-sung-it” celebrity contestants perform for a set of judges while wearing ridiculously extravagant head-to-toe costumes, concealing their identities until they are eliminated from the competition.
