Gary Hess

Gary Hess is the veteran Sports Director for Audacy Richmond radio stations. He has provided morning sports updates on WRVA since 1994, and in 2019 also became the news anchor on WRVA’s Richmond’s Morning News with John Reid. In addition, he does morning news reports on Big 98.5

Gary has been heard on Sports Radio 910 the Fan since 1987. These days he does morning sports updates and coordinates high school football coverage, where he has handled Game of the Week play-by-play duties since 1993 and is now considered “The Voice of High School Football” in RVA. Gary has been on the call for 15 state championship wins by local schools.

Gary grew up here and understands the Richmond sports landscape. Over the years, he has covered the NFL, NASCAR, Virginia Tech and UVa football, ACC basketball, VCU and UR basketball, baseball, the PGA tour and many other local sporting events. In 1999, Gary was honored as Virginia’s Sportscaster Of The Year by the National Sports Media Association.
