Chesterfield, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Chesterfield Education Association has voted "No Confidence" towards the Chesterfield School Board. The vote follows a narrow three to two vote last week to allow Chesterfield parents and students the option of not wearing a mask at school. The decision came despite the fact Chesterfield is near a peak in the Covid-19 pandemic due to Omicron.

The CEA says the board is showing an unwillingness to consider the safety of its staff and students. The vote to make masks optional followed an executive order from Governor Glenn Youngkin, who ordered parents be allowed to "opt-out." The constitutionality of that order is in question, and Richmond and Henrico have voted to continue to requiring masks.

One of two lawsuits over the order is scheduled to be heard Wednesday in Arlington Circuit Court.
